The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The supporters of U21 Portugal booed when U21 Czech Republic was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tomáš Čermák didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 10th minute, Paulo Leite sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and U21 Czech Republic's Vavřinec Šeděnka didn't even have to move. A collision led to U21 Portugal getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Amadeu Nogueira hit a great ball. After 13 minutes of play, U21 Czech Republic's Daniel Bělohlávek made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Miguel Domingues was left in no man's land by his defense there! Amadeu Nogueira hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. Miguel Domingues showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Bělohlávek in the 17th minute of the match. 23 minutes into the match, U21 Czech Republic's goal looked a bit too open when Américo Coelho came free, but Vavřinec Šeděnka reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Miguel Domingues showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Verner Knížek, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. In the 34th minute Lubomír Hůlka shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Miguel Domingues saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Américo Coelho in the 35th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Vavřinec Šeděnka prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When U21 Portugal's Johnny van Persie in the 36th minute got a chance for a shot 36th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye U21 Czech Republic's goalie prevented a goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Johnny van Persie in the 40th minute of play forced U21 Czech Republic's goalkeeper Vavřinec Šeděnka to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 42 played minutes U21 Portugal got a freekick which was hit by Eusébio Panter. Lubomír Hůlka received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Miguel Domingues tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Miguel Domingues made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Bělohlávek in the 46th minute of play. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Bělohlávek stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Verner Knížek had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Johnny van Persie in the 60th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Vavřinec Šeděnka saved U21 Czech Republic from getting behind. Vavřinec Šeděnka showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Johnny van Persie, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. Américo Coelho's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 64thth minute, Vavřinec Šeděnka skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. 66 minutes into the match, U21 Portugal's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Bělohlávek came free, but Miguel Domingues reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 69th minute, Lubomír Hůlka managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Czech Republic's supporters rose to their feet, but Lubomír Hůlka was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Miguel Domingues breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. U21 Portugal's Vítor Ferreira was substituted for Rachid Baba Ali Raaymakers. Vavřinec Šeděnka came out of the goal in the 72nd minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Portugal's Pedro Viegas. But to his dismay, Pedro Viegas quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. Jardel Coluna had several of the U21 Czech Republic's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 75 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-3 score and a disappointed Vavřinec Šeděnka as he didn't even see the shot coming. In the 80th minute Jiří Zukal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Miguel Domingues saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 2-3 became the score in the 83rd minute when Jiří Zukal elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Vavřinec Šeděnka showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eusébio Panter, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. With a little luck, U21 Czech Republic's Vavřinec Šeděnka got control of the ball when Jardel Coluna tried to sneak it across the goal line. Gil Almeida kicked well hit freekick during the 89th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 90th minute, Lubomír Hůlka managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Czech Republic's supporters rose to their feet, but Lubomír Hůlka was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jiří Zukal's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Miguel Domingues read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 91st minute of play. Miguel Domingues took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jiří Zukal, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jardel Coluna received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Vavřinec Šeděnka tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The U21 Portugal players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
