Didier Schollens showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Klaas Jan Mol in the 10th minute of the match. Gery Daneels charged in rather forcefully in the 11th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Gery Daneels the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 11th match minute, U21 Belgium was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gery Daneels to maneuver through the defense. In the 12th minute Robert Collen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Didier Schollens saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Didier Schollens dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-4. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ferry Hebels in the 44th minute of play forced U21 Belgium's goalkeeper Didier Schollens to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dennis Beerthuis didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Belgium. The supporters of U21 Belgium booed when U21 Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dries Bogaard didn't get a good kick on the ball. Didier Schollens made a fantastic save in the 88th minute, when Roelof Molenaar sent off a good shot on target. Dave Bense sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. U21 Netherlands walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
