The referee ignored U21 Belgium's protests and gave Lex Haesevoets a yellow card for diving instead. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 41st minute of the game. One of U21 Belgium:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of U21 Netherlands:s goal. In the 42nd minute, Marnix Mastebroek made a precise shot to the right of Leo van Goetsenhoven. U21 Belgium's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-6. 47 minutes into the match, U21 Belgium's goal looked a bit too open when Robert Collen came free, but Leo van Goetsenhoven reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-6 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Robert Collen was the one to do the kick off. U21 Netherlands's supporters crossed their fingers, but Robert Collen was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
