U21 Netherlands's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Marnix Mastebroek in the 22nd minute. A well-hit corner resulted in Klaas Jan Mol heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. The supporters of U21 Belgium booed when U21 Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Robert Collen didn't get a good kick on the ball. Through an outstanding action, after 34 minutes, Dennis Beerthuis successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. In the 36thth minute of the game Robert Collen who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Belgium's Kristiaan Van de Velde was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Janes Bogaerts hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. After 40 played minutes U21 Belgium got a freekick which was hit by Tomas Huijbrechs. After a rather tough play, U21 Belgium's Tomas Huijbrechs got a free kick in the 42nd minute. Rob Joostens's late challenge caught a U21 Netherlands's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

U21 Netherlands were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
