After having played for 14 minutes, Willy Goolen managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Aalbeked's supporters crossed their fingers, but Willy Goolen was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 19 minutes into the match, RSC Sint-Gillis-Waas's goal looked a bit too open when Gino Demeulemeester came free, but Rob Neys reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Aalbeked's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave RSC Sint-Gillis-Waas the free kick. In the 35th match minute, Aalbeked was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ief Van dooren to maneuver through the defense. Lennert Daneels fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rob Neys having to interfere. Rob Neys made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Willy Goolen in the 45th minute of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

After 59 played minutes RSC Sint-Gillis-Waas got a freekick which was hit by Bastiaan Matthys. In the 62nd minute, Gino Demeulemeester got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 76th minute, Willy Goolen got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Willy Goolen came up free with the goalie in the 77th minute, the Aalbeked fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Willy Goolen couldn't finish the play. Aalbeked were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
