Eldór Hreiðarsson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Celestino Manuelo, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

U21 Iceland's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Club Atlético Unión the free kick. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Delmar Leobardo the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Club Atlético Unión protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Delmar Leobardo had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After 78 played minutes Club Atlético Unión got a freekick which was hit by Delmar Leobardo. In the 84th minute of the match, Vicente Bernaldo tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Eldór Hreiðarsson saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. The supporters of Club Atlético Unión booed when U21 Iceland was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 91 match minutes in a wonderful position. Loki Ragnarsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Vicente Bernaldo was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 92nd played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. U21 Iceland's Eldór Hreiðarsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Florentino Kaiet in the 95th minute of play. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
