Newmilns Ci's Roddie McSimon played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dennis Faulkner in the 19th minute of play. 20 minutes into the match, Cromer F's goalkeeper Dane Clist had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Stewart Tarrill. Graeme Leckie received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Dane Clist came out and tried to block the shot, but Graeme Leckie slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 23rd minute. Roddie McSimon took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dennis Faulkner, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the match had gone on for 31 minutes, Graeme Rice put it in 1-1 from a short distance just to the right of Roddie McSimon. In the 34th minute Graeme Rice shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Roddie McSimon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cromer F's Dane Clist proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 36th minute of the match, managed to save Cromer F from getting a goal against them. 38 minutes into the match, Cromer F's goalkeeper Dane Clist had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Stewart Tarrill. After a defensive mix-up in Cromer F's zone, Wayne Corbet stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dane Clist came out of the goal and Wayne Corbet tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Doug Armstrong made a kick off. Roddie McSimon took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Graeme Rice, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 54 minutes into the game, Stewart Tarrill cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-1. Dane Clist was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Dane Clist showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Stewart Tarrill, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Graeme Rice in the 61st minute of play forced Newmilns Ci's goalkeeper Roddie McSimon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Roddie McSimon showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dennis Faulkner in the 62nd minute of the match. In the 63rd match minute, Newmilns Ci was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gregor Downie to maneuver through the defense. After 69 played minutes Newmilns Ci got a freekick which was hit by Graeme Leckie. Dane Clist showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Stewart Tarrill, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. Thanks to some nice moves Doug Armstrong could shoot a difficult shot in the 74th minute, which Roddie McSimon however easily saved by the left post. 75 minutes into the match, Newmilns Ci's goalkeeper Roddie McSimon had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Graeme Rice. After 79 played minutes, Cromer F's Glenn Jump shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Roddie McSimon came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Cromer F reached it. The audience thought a goal was coming when Doug Armstrong got free with Roddie McSimon in the 81st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Wayne Corbet sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Cromer F's Graeme Rice got a good chance for a goal in the 86th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to Newmilns Ci getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Hugh Crossley hit a great ball. 87 minutes into the match, Cromer F's Glenn Jump broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. In the 88th match minute, Newmilns Ci was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hugh Crossley to maneuver through the defense. Roddie McSimon made a fantastic save in the 89th minute, when Doug Armstrong sent off a good shot on target. Newmilns Ci's Roddie McSimon proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to save Newmilns Ci from getting a goal against them. Roddie McSimon showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Graeme Rice in the 96th minute of the match. Newmilns Ci's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
