An unexpectedly hard shot by Edgardo Navarro in the 3rd minute of play forced Spain's goalkeeper Erasto Bargas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 5 played minutes Guatemala got a freekick which was hit by Oscar Huss. 8 minutes into the match, Guatemala's goalkeeper Baltazar Gallardo had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Froilan Reyes. Baltazar Gallardo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Froilan Reyes in the 9th minute of play. In the 12th play minute Froilan Reyes came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Baltazar Gallardo. 1-0. Froilan Reyes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Baltazar Gallardo having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Guatemala's Oscar Huss got a free kick in the 31st minute. 32 minutes into the game, Froilan Reyes cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Baltazar Gallardo was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Baltazar Gallardo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Froilan Reyes's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. After a rather tough play, Guatemala's Oscar Huss got a free kick in the 44th minute. 46 minutes into the match, Guatemala's goal looked a bit too open when Froilan Reyes came free, but Baltazar Gallardo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Froilan Reyes was the one to do the kick off. In the 51st match minute, Guatemala was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Enrique Najarro to maneuver through the defense. In the 52nd minute of the match Mattæus Landsiggaard sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Baltazar Gallardo skillfully saved the ball. Baltazar Gallardo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dolfos Cartagena, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Guatemala's zone, Froilan Reyes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Baltazar Gallardo came out of the goal and Froilan Reyes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 61st minute Froilan Reyes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Baltazar Gallardo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Spain made a substitution. Cordarin Escurza replaced Dolfos Cartagena. Guatemala's Juan Orozco was substituted for Selvin Umaña. Erasto Bargas took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edgardo Navarro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 68th minute, Froilan Reyes left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Spain fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-0. Baltazar Gallardo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Froilan Reyes, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. A very good chance. Spain's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
