After 20 minutes U21 Slovakia's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Eric Dinnes who took care of the corner kick. The corner first didn't look so dangerous but when Nicol Allinson got the ball he succeeded in some way to get through the defenders to deliver a very hard score. Result 1-1. 21 minutes into the match. In the 24th minute, Douglas Costa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jimmy Adie took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Pavlovič, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 29th minute Douglas Costa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rastislav Duch saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In a very dangerous position, a player in U21 Slovakia fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 28th minute. Penalty! The referee gave U21 Scotland a penalty, 31 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Eric Dinnes, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of U21 Slovakia's Rastislav Duch. 1-2. Rastislav Duch made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Douglas Costa in the 41st minute of play. After 46 played minutes U21 Slovakia got a freekick which was hit by Pane Boze. U21 Slovakia's Rastislav Duch played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Douglas Costa in the 47th minute of play. After 47 played minutes U21 Scotland got a freekick which was hit by Marcus Hastings. U21 Slovakia's Marián Petrov was substituted for Daniel Pavlovič. After 49 played minutes U21 Scotland got a freekick which was hit by Marcus Hastings. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Douglas Costa stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Douglas Costa charged in rather forcefully in the 56th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in U21 Scotland reached it. U21 Slovakia's Tomáš Gondoľ quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Samuel McQuarrie, made in the 83rd minute of the game. 87 minutes into the game, U21 Scotland's Douglas Costa nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Rastislav Duch made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. An unexpectedly hard shot by Douglas Costa in the 90th minute of play forced U21 Slovakia's goalkeeper Rastislav Duch to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched U21 Scotland eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
