The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Manúel Gonzáles made a fantastic save in the 8th minute, when Juan Carlos Ferreira sent off a good shot on target. A nice corner shot did that Juan Carlos Ferreira got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Manúel Gonzáles quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. 14 minutes into the match, Serafino Santandres notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of U21 El Salvador's Manúel Gonzáles. Manúel Gonzáles was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Through an outstanding action, after 17 minutes, Manúel Gonzáles successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. After some careless play in the U21 Paraguay defense, Alfredo Menjivar kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Blas Hermosilla. The U21 Paraguay fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Blas Hermosilla should have stopped the shot. In the 23rd minute Rio Leizaur shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Manúel Gonzáles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Manúel Gonzáles showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Juan Carlos Ferreira, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. After 24th play minutes Juan Carlos Ferreira shot 2-1, a short shot which went by Manúel Gonzáles and just under the crossbar into goal. Manúel Gonzáles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Juan Carlos Ferreira in the 27th minute of play. In the 29th minute U21 Paraguay were awarded a corner. Urdaspal Angeriz went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that Serafino Santandres got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Manúel Gonzáles quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Orlando Contrera sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Manúel Gonzáles stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Juan Carlos Ferreira's shot from short distance in the 32nd minute. 33 minutes into the match, U21 El Salvador's goal looked a bit too open when Juan Carlos Ferreira came free, but Manúel Gonzáles reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Serafino Santandres received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Manúel Gonzáles tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Manúel Gonzáles came out of the goal in the 40th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Paraguay's Juan Carlos Ferreira. But to his dismay, Juan Carlos Ferreira quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfredo Menjivar in the 45th minute of play forced U21 Paraguay's goalkeeper Blas Hermosilla to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

U21 El Salvador's Angel Velis was substituted for Waldir Olmedo. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Angel Velis to make the kick off. 55 minutes into the match, U21 El Salvador's goal looked a bit too open when Rio Leizaur came free, but Manúel Gonzáles reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 57th minute, Juan Carlos Ferreira managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Paraguay's supporters rose to their feet, but Juan Carlos Ferreira was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Manúel Gonzáles breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Manúel Gonzáles showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Juan Carlos Ferreira in the 59th minute of the match. The supporters of U21 Paraguay booed when U21 El Salvador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Odir Bautista didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 67th minute, Leheren Madera got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. U21 Paraguay's Guaberto Lavet was substituted for Juan Carlos Ferreira. Manúel Gonzáles took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Guaberto Lavet, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. U21 El Salvador made a substitution. Alonso Ulloa replaced Alonso Castaneda. The supporters of U21 Paraguay booed when U21 El Salvador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alberto Boianelli didn't get a good kick on the ball. 83 minutes into the match, Rio Leizaur notched a goal, 4-1, to the right of U21 El Salvador's Manúel Gonzáles. Manúel Gonzáles was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Rony Sifon hit a great freekick 86 minutes into the match. Higinio Careaga took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 87th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Manúel Gonzáles. U21 El Salvador's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Orlando Contrera during the 88th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Alberto Boianelli's late challenge caught a U21 Paraguay's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alberto Boianelli helped the player get up and apologised. When the referee blew the final whistle, U21 Paraguay could leave the field as winners, despite U21 El Salvador having more of the ball for most of the match.
