With an extended leg and a bit of luck Leslie Thebe prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Through an outstanding action, after 8 minutes, Jens Schrape successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. U21 Austria's Tobias Waschke got a good chance for a goal in the 9th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Leo Lefering received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Leslie Thebe tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 18 minutes into the match, U21 South Africa's goal looked a bit too open when Tobias Waschke came free, but Leslie Thebe reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 20 minutes had been played when some careless play by U21 South Africa's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Andreas Peintner was slow to take the kick. During this time U21 Austria's players had a chance to rest. When U21 Austria's Tobias Waschke in the 24th minute got a chance for a shot 24th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye U21 South Africa's goalie prevented a goal. In the 26th match minute, U21 South Africa was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hoadley Inguana to maneuver through the defense. In the 33rdth minute of the game Tobias Waschke who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 South Africa's Leslie Thebe was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The audience was convinced that Christof Mehlbaum's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Leslie Thebe was relentless in the 35th minute of the game. Lorenz Delb hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. When U21 Austria's Tobias Waschke in the 40th minute got a chance for a shot 40th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tobias Waschke to strike the kick off in the second half. Christof Mehlbaum recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 51st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in U21 South Africa's zone, Tobias Waschke stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leslie Thebe came out of the goal and Tobias Waschke tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Tobias Waschke's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Leslie Thebe read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 62nd minute of play. U21 South Africa's Hoadley Inguana managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Johannes Stein in the 64 minute of the game. The audience thought a goal was coming when Urs-Peter Hindlmeyer got free with Leslie Thebe in the 67th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. U21 South Africa's Leslie Thebe proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 69th minute of the match, managed to save U21 South Africa from getting a goal against them. 71 minutes into the match, U21 South Africa's goal looked a bit too open when Tobias Waschke came free, but Leslie Thebe reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Milton Mncube recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 73rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Leslie Thebe made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. In the 81st minute Patrice Mothobi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jens Schrape saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. U21 South Africa's Leslie Thebe proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 82nd minute of the match, managed to save U21 South Africa from getting a goal against them. Tobias Waschke's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Leslie Thebe read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 84th minute of play. After some careless play in the U21 South Africa defense, Urs-Peter Hindlmeyer kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Leslie Thebe. The U21 South Africa fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Leslie Thebe should have stopped the shot. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tobias Waschke got free with Leslie Thebe in the 92nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Urs-Peter Hindlmeyer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Urs-Peter Hindlmeyer succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-3 in the 97th playminute. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. U21 Austria had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
