In the 7th minute, Marty Driver ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Carlos Delgado was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. 10 minutes into the match, U21 England's goal looked a bit too open when Jaime Icedo came free, but Dean Henderson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Carlos Delgado took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Steven Tanner, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Zuberoa Doro kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. Chris Guest fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Delgado having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jaime Icedo got free with Dean Henderson in the 23rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Gregory Sinclair kicked well hit freekick during the 24th minute of the match. Dean Henderson stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Juan Eduardo Guerrero's shot from short distance in the 26th minute. Jaime Icedo might have been able to make a better finish in the 29th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Dean Henderson. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jaime Icedo ran back to his position shaking his head. The audience thought a goal was coming when Clemente Medel got free with Dean Henderson in the 36th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Carlos Delgado showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marty Driver in the 40th minute of the match. Simon Belarrinaga charged in rather forcefully in the 42nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Simon Belarrinaga the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of U21 England booed when U21 Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Simon Belarrinaga didn't get a good kick on the ball. Steven Tanner received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Carlos Delgado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After the first half U21 England were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

U21 Ecuador made a substitution. Duarte Castellon replaced Hernan Montealegre. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Jaime Icedo was the one to do the kick off. Dean Henderson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jaime Icedo in the 53rd minute of the match. U21 Ecuador's Carlos Delgado played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marty Driver in the 58th minute of play. A collision led to U21 Ecuador getting a freekick after 65 minutes play. Urki Regalado hit a great ball. 66 minutes into the match, U21 Ecuador's goalkeeper Carlos Delgado had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Steven Tanner. 68 minutes into the match, U21 Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Chris Guest came free, but Carlos Delgado reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 73 played minutes U21 England got a freekick which was hit by Steven Tanner. Dean Henderson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jaime Icedo in the 75th minute of the match. In the 82nd minute Chris Guest shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Carlos Delgado saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dean Henderson didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jaime Icedo went, in the 83rd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. 87 minutes into the game, U21 Ecuador's Jaime Icedo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dean Henderson made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. U21 England's Dean Henderson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jaime Icedo in the 91st minute of play. Clemente Medel kicked well hit freekick during the 97th minute of the match. Many of U21 England's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. U21 England may have spent more time on the ball, but U21 Ecuador were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
