When Emiel Everts fell near the penalty area in the 9th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Netherlands's protests and gave Emiel Everts a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of U21 Belgium booed when U21 Netherlands was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emiel Everts didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jeroen Van Haght could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 11th minute of the match, but Daniel Stuijvenberg made a huge save. In the 14th minute Bavo Landewijck shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Daniel Stuijvenberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 16thth minute of the game Bavo Landewijck who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Netherlands's Daniel Stuijvenberg was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 25th minute Bavo Landewijck shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Daniel Stuijvenberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jeroen Van Haght couldn't finish the play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Hendrik-Jan Wemers made the kick off in the second half. After 50 played minutes U21 Netherlands got a freekick which was hit by Emiel Everts. Daniel Stuijvenberg stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jeroen Van Haght's shot from short distance in the 53rd minute. 55 minutes into the match, Jeroen Van Haght had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Daniel Stuijvenberg. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hendrik-Jan Wemers couldn't finish the play. Daniel Stuijvenberg made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jeroen Van Haght in the 82nd minute of play. After 84 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for U21 Netherlands! U21 Belgium's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
