In the 3rd minute Cristi Ronaldo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Casper Hulsebos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sanchez Negro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Klas Bak, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sanchez Negro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Klas Bak in the 5th minute of play. Casper Hulsebos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zernin Huelga in the 7th minute of the match. After 8 minutes U21 Netherlands's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Kelemen Astonzas who took care of the corner kick. Falco Korsma recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 11th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Sanchez Negro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Klas Bak in the 13th minute of play. Dick Schouten made in the 28th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Igor Radomski immediately put the ball in play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Klas Bak in the 32nd minute of play forced U21 Colombia's goalkeeper Sanchez Negro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to U21 Netherlands getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Ben Steyns hit a great ball. U21 Netherlands's Casper Hulsebos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zernin Huelga in the 36th minute of play. When the match clock showed 36 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Cristi Ronaldo sped through U21 Netherlands's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Casper Hulsebos. In the 40th minute the ball was on its way in behind U21 Colombia's goalkeeper Sanchez Negro, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Cristi Ronaldo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Casper Hulsebos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. U21 Netherlands's Casper Hulsebos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zernin Huelga in the 45th minute of play. Casper Hulsebos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zernin Huelga, who was totally free with the ball in the 48th minute. After the first half U21 Colombia were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

U21 Netherlands's Ron Been was substituted for Twan Mol. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Cristi Ronaldo to strike the kick off in the second half. After 53 minutes of play, U21 Netherlands's Klas Bak made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Sanchez Negro was left in no man's land by his defense there! Igor Radomski recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. U21 Netherlands's Eddy Neijsen was substituted for Dušan Tadić. U21 Netherlands's Elmar Roorda was substituted for Igor Radomski. Dick Schouten kicked well hit freekick during the 75th minute of the match. U21 Colombia's Alexander Sandoval managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Dick Schouten in the 79 minute of the game. Casper Hulsebos made an important save on a dangerous shot by Mateo Palacio in the 80th minute. Cristi Ronaldo hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristi Ronaldo in the 88th minute of play forced U21 Netherlands's goalkeeper Casper Hulsebos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sanchez Negro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Elmar Roorda in the 89th minute of the match. After 95 minutes, Mateo Palacio made it 1-2 with a short kick to the right side. U21 Netherlands's Casper Hulsebos tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Elmar Roorda sent away a hard shot on goal in the 98th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The U21 Netherlands manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing U21 Colombia to win.
