Denis Domogarov ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Denis Domogarov in the 36th minute of play forced Lithuania's goalkeeper Zenonas Kuprevičius to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mantvydas Kardašius in the 40th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lev Yashin prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 42 minutes into the match, Mantvydas Kardašius notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Russia's Lev Yashin. Lev Yashin was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Zenonas Kuprevičius showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ilya Kondrashov in the 45th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Mantvydas Kardašius got free with Lev Yashin in the 46th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Lev Yashin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mantvydas Kardašius, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. Mantvydas Kardašius received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Lev Yashin tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Anicetas Liaudanskas blasted a shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Lev Yashin having to make a save. Russia made a substitution. Mantvydas Jakniūnas's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lev Yashin read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 69th minute of play. Faustas Kačinskas was slow to take the kick. During this time Lithuania's players had a chance to rest. In the 87th minute, Mantvydas Jakniūnas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Lithuania fans cheered their team off the field, for while Russia had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
