If Marcos Salas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 31st minute, Đặng Hieu fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Mai Thuyet came free with the goalkeeper in the 33rd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Chap Periceira could save by the left post. In the 37th minute Dayam Llave shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Phan Bien saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience was convinced that Leheren Bretal's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Phan Bien was relentless in the 39th minute of the game. Diego Godín charged in rather forcefully in the 40th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. After taking down the ball on Venezuela's corner Rafa Hernández fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Phan Bien quite easily take care of the ball. Leheren Bretal's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Phan Bien read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 75th minute of play. In the 80th minute, Emenon Arieta hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Chap Periceira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Đặng Hieu in the 82nd minute of the match. In the 83rd minute Leheren Bretal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Phan Bien saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Vietnam defense, Guilabertus Castrillon kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Phan Bien. The Vietnam fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Phan Bien should have stopped the shot. Leheren Bretal recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 92nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience was convinced that Leheren Bretal's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Phan Bien was relentless in the 95th minute of the game. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Venezuela had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
