Gylfi Halldórsson kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. If Walton Fréchette had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Annar Oddvarsson fell near the penalty area in the 11th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Iceland's protests and gave Annar Oddvarsson a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of U21 Canada booed when U21 Iceland was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 11 match minutes in a wonderful position. Annar Oddvarsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 13th minute, Annar Oddvarsson left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The U21 Iceland fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Vernon Boulanger showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Héðinn Erlendsson, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. Garibaldi Hlöðversson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gianfranco Zola could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 19th minute of the match, but Axel Vignisson made a huge save. U21 Canada's Vernon Boulanger played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Héðinn Erlendsson in the 21st minute of play. 24 minutes into the match, Gianfranco Zola had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Axel Vignisson. U21 Iceland's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Gianfranco Zola was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Williams Bourgeau in the 28th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Axel Vignisson prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Axel Vignisson made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ulrich Wilcox in the 29th minute. 38 minutes into the match, U21 Iceland's goal looked a bit too open when Krystian Żmuda came free, but Axel Vignisson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 41st match minute, U21 Canada was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ulrich Wilcox to maneuver through the defense. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

The wind increased when Héðinn Erlendsson made the kick off in the second half. Vernon Boulanger made an important save on a dangerous shot by Héðinn Erlendsson in the 51st minute. 52 minutes had been played when some careless play by U21 Canada's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daríus Hreiðarsson was slow to take the kick. During this time U21 Iceland's players had a chance to rest. A very nice done corner allowed Garibaldi Hlöðversson to score against Vernon Boulanger in U21 Canada's goal. 2-2 after 53 minutes. 55 minutes into the match, Gianfranco Zola notched a goal, 3-2, to the right of U21 Iceland's Axel Vignisson. Axel Vignisson was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Axel Vignisson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gianfranco Zola in the 58th minute of play. If Walton Fréchette had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. In the 67th minute, Williams Bourgeau made a precise shot to the right of Axel Vignisson. U21 Iceland's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-2. Vernon Boulanger made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Héðinn Erlendsson in the 74th minute of play. Héðinn Erlendsson's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 78thth minute, Vernon Boulanger skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Héðinn Erlendsson could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 83rd minute of the match, but Vernon Boulanger made a huge save. In the 85th minute, Héðinn Erlendsson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. U21 Canada's attentive Luther Patrick managed to snatch the ball when Ingibjörn Pétursson made a throw-in in the 89th minute of the game. Axel Vignisson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gianfranco Zola in the 93rd minute of the match.
