The tension between the U21 Scotland and the U21 Peru players grew even worse after the yellow card. 17 minutes into the game, Marcio Valverde was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Peru's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 Scotland the free kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Valentin Azpiazu got free with Harry McWalrick in the 36th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Nayely Lozares could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 40th minute of the match, but Harry McWalrick made a huge save. After some careless play in the U21 Scotland defense, Valentin Azpiazu kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Harry McWalrick. The U21 Scotland fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Harry McWalrick should have stopped the shot. When John McCaig fell near the penalty area in the 48th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Scotland's protests and gave John McCaig a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of U21 Peru booed when U21 Scotland was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 48 match minutes in a wonderful position. John McCaig didn't get a good kick on the ball. U21 Peru made a substitution. Emanuel Herrera replaced Joaquim Aristegui. John McCaig kicked well hit freekick during the 49th minute of the match.
