The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some fancy dribbling in the 5th minute, Edmund Lidberg managed to get in a good position for a shot. Club Olimpia's supporters rose to their feet, but Edmund Lidberg was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Lartaun Ibar breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. OLIMPIA's Lartaun Ibar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nelson Haedo in the 7th minute of play. In the 9th minute the ball was on its way in behind OLIMPIA's goalkeeper Lartaun Ibar, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 13 minutes into the match, OLIMPIA's goal looked a bit too open when Nelson Haedo came free, but Lartaun Ibar reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 15th match minute, Club Olimpia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Müfit Mikail to maneuver through the defense. 20 minutes into the game, Nelson Haedo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Lartaun Ibar was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 23 minutes into the match, OLIMPIA's goal looked a bit too open when Nelson Haedo came free, but Lartaun Ibar reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some careless play in the OLIMPIA defense, Nelson Haedo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lartaun Ibar. The OLIMPIA fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lartaun Ibar should have stopped the shot. Lartaun Ibar came out of the goal in the 34th minute to try and stop a shot by Club Olimpia's Nelson Haedo. But to his dismay, Nelson Haedo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. In the 38th minute the ball was on its way in behind OLIMPIA's goalkeeper Lartaun Ibar, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 39th minute, Nelson Haedo left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Club Olimpia fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-4. After a defensive mix-up in OLIMPIA's zone, Nelson Haedo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lartaun Ibar came out of the goal and Nelson Haedo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Nelson Haedo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lartaun Ibar read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 45th minute of play. In the 47th minute of the match Club Olimpia got a corner. OLIMPIA's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Otsoa Manzardo ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner went over the outstretched arms of OLIMPIA's goalie and right to Rickard Soned. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. OLIMPIA's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Nelson Haedo was the one to do the kick off. After a rather tough play, Club Olimpia's Macario Alvadalejo got a free kick in the 52nd minute. In the 53rd minute Neymar Juniors shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Teyo Ordoñez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 58 minutes into the match, Club Olimpia's goal looked a bit too open when Mátyás Borbás came free, but Teyo Ordoñez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Teyo Ordoñez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mátyás Borbás, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Lartaun Ibar made an important save on a dangerous shot by Macario Alvadalejo in the 67th minute. 68 minutes into the match, Club Olimpia's goal looked a bit too open when Mátyás Borbás came free, but Teyo Ordoñez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Club Olimpia's Nelson Haedo got a good chance for a goal in the 70th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Club Olimpia made a substitution. Roque Gora replaced Luís Fernando Duarte. Lartaun Ibar made a fantastic save in the 77th minute, when Nelson Haedo sent off a good shot on target. 80 minutes into the match, Club Olimpia's goal looked a bit too open when Mátyás Borbás came free, but Teyo Ordoñez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 83 minutes, Macario Alvadalejo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Club Olimpia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Macario Alvadalejo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Through an outstanding action, after 85 minutes, Lartaun Ibar successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. OLIMPIA's Lartaun Ibar proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 88th minute of the match, managed to save OLIMPIA from getting a goal against them. When the match was over Club Olimpia could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than OLIMPIA throughout the match.
