A sloppy throw-in by Carlo Greenberg in the 11th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Santos FC's Tory Weeks. Wilbur Hyde showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lanny Gilmore, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. The audience was convinced that Domingo Lopez's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Aaron Smallwood was relentless in the 18th minute of the game. Cesar Small sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Wilbur Hyde came out of the goal and Dominic Albright tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Santos FC's Tory Weeks managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Claude Mueller in the 31 minute of the game. Wilbur Hyde was out of position in the 32 minute of play, and Lanny Gilmore capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Lanny Gilmore really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. 40 minutes into the match, El Canalla de Chicago's goalkeeper Wilbur Hyde had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Lanny Gilmore. The audience thought a goal was coming when Arturo Turner got free with Wilbur Hyde in the 42nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 43rd minute Santos FC were awarded a corner. Dominic Albright went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led Santos FC's Dominic Albright to fire away a dangerous shot which Wilbur Hyde despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. When Matthew Medrano fell near the penalty area in the 44th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored El Canalla de Chicago's protests and gave Matthew Medrano a yellow card for diving instead. In the 44th minute, Matthew Medrano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lanny Gilmore in the 46thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Wilbur Hyde, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Lanny Gilmore to make the kick off. Wilbur Hyde tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. El Canalla de Chicago made a substitution. Justin Raines replaced Tom Adams. El Canalla de Chicago's Andreas Sanchez was substituted for Matthew Medrano. Wilbur Hyde took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lanny Gilmore, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 72nd minute Lanny Gilmore shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilbur Hyde saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 74th minute Santos FC were awarded a corner. Dominic Albright went to the cornerflag to take it. If Lanny Gilmore had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The supporters of Santos FC booed when El Canalla de Chicago was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Domingo Lopez didn't get a good kick on the ball. Wilbur Hyde showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lanny Gilmore in the 79th minute of the match. In the 87th minute Tyron Velasquez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilbur Hyde saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 88 minutes had been played when some careless play by El Canalla de Chicago's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Dominic Albright was slow to take the kick. During this time Santos FC's players had a chance to rest. Wilbur Hyde showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lanny Gilmore in the 94th minute of the match. El Canalla de Chicago's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
