World Cup 2018: groups drawn!

16-05-2018 20:00

The World Cup 2018 begins on May 29 and earlier today the groups were drawn. Reigning World Cup champions Poland were drawn in Group 4 along with England, Ecuador and MZ Country, while last year's finalists Italy were drawn in Group 3 along with Switzerland, South Africa and Moldova.

To ensure active engagement in all National Team cups, only countries with an elected National Coach are invited to participate in each cup. Total teams were 75 in the World Cup qualification.

Once again, the qualification phase resulted in several of the big nations being eliminated.
  • Three-folded champions Sweden only won 1 of their 4 matches and thereby missed their second consecutive World Cup.

  • The former champions from 2012, Netherlands, failed to qualify once again, after finishing 3rd in their group behind Belgium and Uruguay.

  • The silver medalists from 2009, Austria, missed out on the World Cup party despite winning 2 of their 3 matches, as they ended up with worse goal difference than both Singapore and Ireland.

  • Three-folded finalists Romania ended last in their qualification group and therefore have to wait another year for a chance to win the coveted world cup trophy for their first time.

All teams who failed to qualify for the World Cup party: Indonesia, Norway, Colombia, South Korea, Senegal, Jordan, Belarus, Australia, Luxembourg, Ukraine, India, Egypt, Mexico, Venezuela, Iceland, Russia, Costa Rica, Philippines, Netherlands, Scotland, Tunisia, Latvia, Finland, Malaysia, Lebanon, Honduras, Bosnia And Hercegovina, Kuwait, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Sweden, Israel, Albania, El Salvador, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Austria, Guatemala, France, Trinidad & Tobago, Paraguay, Romania.
