The Federations League season concluded just a few days ago. In the football Elite Division, Allstars Sverige won their seventh straight season after winning all their clashes. But the biggest news comes from the hockey game. Reigning champions ZHL Marathon had to yield as a newer federation won their first ever title: Federacion Argentina Unida.
In addition, we also would like to inform you on an upcoming change: we will eventually start promoting 2 federations and demoting 4. Read at the bottom to find out more!
Football review Allstars Sverige has again proven their superiority in the football Federations League, picking up eleven straight victories. The toughest challenge came from Fratres as early as round 1, but after a 56-52 win in that clash, no other federation came close to annoying the Allstars. Overall, we saw a strangely uneven season this time around. Fratres picked up 30 points to finish in second spot, just a few behind the winners. But behind them, Federatia Romana de Fotbal in third and Outlaws Sweden in fourth only managed to gather 21 points. Are we witnessing the emergence of a divide in the football Federations League?
Hockey review Well, well, well. We have seen the quick emergence of Federacion Argentina Unida over the last couple of seasons, but can't help but to feel a bit surprised at how fast they were able to rise to the top. They won all of their clashes of this past season, narrowly beating ZHL Marathon and MZ Hockey EspaƱa, but steamrolling everyone else. ZHL Marathon finished second after gaining 30 points, while Sudden Death and MZ Hockey Federation finished third and fourth, gaining 27 and 22 points respectively.
Upcoming change A while back we invited you all to discuss a potential tweak in the Federations League, one which has been much debated and requested over the last couple of years. At the moment, we are promoting three federations from each group, while demoting six. This creates a lot of movement, making it difficult for federations to achieve a solid base. The outcome of the discussion was very clear: a huge majority was in favor of changing the system to two up, four down. The change will become visible in the 97.1 (football) and 89.1 (hockey) season, since you will notice that the promotion and relegations lines will be drawn differently. Then, at the start of the 97.2/89.2 season, the change will take effect.
We want to wish all federations the best of luck in the season ahead!
