Lyuboslav Kosturkov ran over to the corner to take the kick. After a rather tough play, Slovenia's Andrija Filipović got a free kick in the 11th minute. Bratan Bochkov's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dragan Pernek read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 20th minute of play. 22 minutes into the match, Slovenia's goal looked a bit too open when Lilcho Nakev came free, but Dragan Pernek reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dragan Pernek didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Bratan Bochkov went, in the 27th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Bratan Bochkov could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 34th minute of the match, but Dragan Pernek made a huge save. Dragan Pernek made an important save on a dangerous shot by Kuzman Pindev in the 35th minute. In the 37th minute the ball was on its way in behind Slovenia's goalkeeper Dragan Pernek, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The supporters of Slovenia booed when Bulgaria was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lilcho Nakev didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice moves Kuzman Pindev could shoot a difficult shot in the 42nd minute, which Dragan Pernek however easily saved by the left post. Kuzman Pindev struck a weak shot in the 44th minute. Dragan Pernek didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Bulgaria. Slovenia's Dragan Pernek proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 47th minute of the match, managed to save Slovenia from getting a goal against them. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Bulgaria's Bone Levunliev proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 51st minute of the match, managed to save Bulgaria from getting a goal against them. Dragan Pernek showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Svilen Milchov, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. When Bulgaria's Kuzman Pindev in the 53rd minute got a chance for a shot 53rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Slovenia's goalie prevented a goal. Djuro Boršič's late challenge caught a Bulgaria's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Djuro Boršič helped the player get up and apologised. In the 59th minute, Djuro Boršič hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Kuzman Pindev in the 60th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dragan Pernek saved Slovenia from getting behind. Slovenia's Dragan Pernek played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kuzman Pindev in the 62nd minute of play. After 63 minutes Slovenia's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Lyuboslav Kosturkov who took care of the corner kick. 65 minutes into the match, Slovenia's goal looked a bit too open when Bratan Bochkov came free, but Dragan Pernek reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Bozhko Gardakov recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Evstati Stoimchev in the 78th minute of play forced Slovenia's goalkeeper Dragan Pernek to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Slovenia's Nick Žuraj was substituted for Andrija Filipović. Slovenia's Bronislav Kiebacher was substituted for Anton Kutnjak. Dragan Pernek showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lilcho Nakev, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Antoan Zdravchev hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Bulgaria's zone, Kazimir Lukanc stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Atanas Ivanov replaced Evstati Stoimchev. 89 minutes had been played when some careless play by Slovenia's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Lyuboslav Kosturkov was slow to take the kick. During this time Bulgaria's players had a chance to rest. In the 92nd minute Atanas Ivanov shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dragan Pernek saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Hristo Bonev during the 94th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 94th minute, one of Bulgaria:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Bulgaria. Bone Levunliev didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Bronislav Kiebacher went, in the 95th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. 97 minutes into the match, Bulgaria's goalkeeper Bone Levunliev had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Kazimir Lukanc. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
