With a left leg Oto Pavlu saved U21 Slovakia from getting behind. When the match had gone on for 12 minutes, Yevgen Ukrainets put it in 1-0 from a short distance just to the right of Oto Pavlu. In the 15th minute Erik Jendrišek shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mefodiy Gitchenko saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 18 minutes into the game, Szilárd Németh cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Mefodiy Gitchenko was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 20 minutes into the game, Štefan Markovič was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U21 Slovakia's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave U21 Ukraine the free kick. After a rather tough play, U21 Slovakia's Štefan Markovič got a free kick in the 20th minute. U21 Slovakia's Oto Pavlu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Yevgen Ukrainets in the 23rd minute of play. The excitement rose when U21 Slovakia's Szilárd Németh after 30 played minutes turned away three defenders near the goal, and after that shot a ball that was too difficult for U21 Ukraine's goalkeeper to hold. Score! 1-2. Szilárd Németh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mefodiy Gitchenko having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Yevgen Ukrainets's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Oto Pavlu was relentless in the 34th minute of the game. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Yevgen Ukrainets made a kick off. Mefodiy Gitchenko showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Oliver Poláček, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. The audience was convinced that Yevgen Ukrainets's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Oto Pavlu was relentless in the 58th minute of the game. Despite being the better team, U21 Slovakia failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
