Steven Airth was left in no man's land by his defense there! Italy's Angelo Peruzzi proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 9th minute of the match, managed to save Italy from getting a goal against them. In the 14th minute Alfredo Reggianini shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Steven Airth saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Steven Airth showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gheorghe Hagi in the 14th minute of the match. Italy's Angelo Peruzzi proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 19th minute of the match, managed to save Italy from getting a goal against them. Jay Limont could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but Angelo Peruzzi made a huge save. If Rory Hallyard had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Angelo Peruzzi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jay Limont in the 28th minute of the match. Angelo Peruzzi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jay Limont, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 34th minute Scotland were awarded a corner. Rory Hallyard went to the cornerflag to take it. Scotland's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Rory Hallyard in the 38th minute. Steven Airth made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gheorghe Hagi in the 40th minute of play. 42 minutes into the match, Alfredo Reggianini notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Scotland's Steven Airth. Steven Airth was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Steven Airth took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gheorghe Hagi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After the first half Italy were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Gheorghe Hagi made the kick off in the second half. 54 minutes into the match, Scotland's goalkeeper Steven Airth had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gheorghe Hagi. In the 58th minute the ball was on its way in behind Scotland's goalkeeper Steven Airth, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Steven Airth made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gheorghe Hagi in the 65th minute of play. Angelo Peruzzi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Innes McLarty, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. Italy's Donato Armellini was substituted for Gheorghe Hagi. The corner led Italy's Alfredo Reggianini to fire away a dangerous shot which Steven Airth despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. With a little luck, Scotland's Steven Airth got control of the ball when Donato Armellini tried to sneak it across the goal line. Scotland made a substitution. Will Paterson replaced Billy Caddell. Scotland's Ryan McVarish was substituted for Conor Ashmore. A well-hit corner resulted in Luigi Di Biagio heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. 90 minutes into the match, Scotland's Rory Hallyard sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Angelo Peruzzi narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 92nd minute, Luigi Di Biagio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Amedeo Di Monte hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. The Scotland supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Italy's performance. The match ended with a win for Italy.
