Nando Muslera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ricky Jennings, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. David Branagh showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fatih Sultan-Mehmet in the 45th minute of the match. 46 minutes into the match, Talip Ağaoğlu had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of David Branagh. Northern Ireland's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Talip Ağaoğlu was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0.

Turkey made a substitution. Kemalettin Taşdan replaced Baturay Rakim. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Rowan Way made a kick off. David Branagh took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Esen Irgatbaşı, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rowan Way could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 55th minute of the match, but Nando Muslera made a huge save. In the 79th minute, Esen Irgatbaşı ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. David Branagh was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-0. Esen Irgatbaşı's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but David Branagh read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 82nd minute of play. David Branagh made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mustafa Yaşar Torgay in the 86th minute of play. 87 minutes had been played when some careless play by Northern Ireland's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Kemalettin Taşdan was slow to take the kick. During this time Turkey's players had a chance to rest. Turkey's Kemalettin Taşdan was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but David Branagh in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. If Esen Irgatbaşı had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The throw-in from Russ Bator in the 93rd minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Turkey's Hakan Bürgehan. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Mustafa Yaşar Torgay in the 94th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg David Branagh saved Northern Ireland from getting behind. David Branagh stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mustafa Yaşar Torgay's shot from short distance in the 94th minute.
