The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience was convinced that Benjamin da Fonseca's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Johnny Ibarra was relentless in the 7th minute of the game. Johnny Ibarra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Benjamin da Fonseca in the 11th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Benjamin da Fonseca stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Johnny Ibarra came out of the goal and Benjamin da Fonseca tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Isaac Ferreira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Obregón Pardemanos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Benjamin da Fonseca in the 27th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Johnny Ibarra saved Ecuador from getting behind. Johnny Ibarra stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Benjamin da Fonseca's shot from short distance in the 27th minute. Leandro Heidemann could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 31st minute of the match, but Johnny Ibarra made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Obregón Pardemanos in the 32nd minute of play forced Brazil's goalkeeper Isaac Ferreira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Johnny Ibarra made an important save on a dangerous shot by Benjamin da Fonseca in the 33rd minute. Isaac Ferreira came out of the goal in the 35th minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Obregón Pardemanos. But to his dismay, Obregón Pardemanos quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. When Ecuador's Obregón Pardemanos in the 39th minute got a chance for a shot 39th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Brazil's goalie prevented a goal. After some careless play in the Brazil defense, Obregón Pardemanos kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Isaac Ferreira. The Brazil fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Isaac Ferreira should have stopped the shot. Ambrossi Ciaran got a throw-in 46 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Angel Mena. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

Ecuador made a substitution. Flavio Cifuentes replaced Obregón Pardemanos. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Flavio Cifuentes was the one to do the kick off. Johnny Ibarra made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Celsinho Perez in the 54th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Benjamin da Fonseca's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Johnny Ibarra was relentless in the 57th minute of the game. 59 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Leandro Heidemann came free, but Johnny Ibarra reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Brazil's Maurinho Mendonça was substituted for Benjamin da Fonseca. 74 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Rodrigo Trigo was slow to take the kick. During this time Brazil's players had a chance to rest. Isaac Ferreira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Flavio Cifuentes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 78 minutes into the match, Flavio Cifuentes had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Isaac Ferreira. Brazil's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Flavio Cifuentes was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. Ecuador's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
