Luxembourg's Jean-Claude Fröhlich managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Jakov Mata in the 34 minute of the game. In the 38th minute Kazimir Pendo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Karlheinz Ludecke saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Natko Gajski had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Luxembourg's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Yannick Bartz in the 53rd minute. After taking down the ball on Luxembourg's corner Milo Pickler fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Nebojša Jerić quite easily take care of the ball. After 54 minutes of play, Luxembourg's Peter Habich made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. But to his dismay, Elmar Bruch quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. Yannick Bartz took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 81st minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Nebojša Jerić. Croatia's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the game's 81st minute Luxembourg's Yannick Bartz took a hard shot from long distance, a kick which went into the net just to the right of Nebojša Jerić and thus the score was 4-0. In the 84thth minute of the game Elmar Bruch who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Croatia's Nebojša Jerić was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Nebojša Jerić stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Elmar Bruch's shot from short distance in the 91st minute. 94 minutes into the match, Zeno Pfützner had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Nebojša Jerić. Croatia's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Zeno Pfützner was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 6-0.
