Dofri Hannesson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Aznaro Marquez read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 4th minute of play. 7 minutes into the match, Iceland's goal looked a bit too open when Pau Nieto came free, but Ásgautur Reimarsson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Xurde Redondo kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. In the 9th minute Þyrnir Árnason shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aznaro Marquez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Spain's Aznaro Marquez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dofri Hannesson in the 11th minute of play. Ásgautur Reimarsson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pau Nieto, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. After 14 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Iceland! Ásgautur Reimarsson had in the 15thth minute some difficulties stopping Pau Nieto's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 15 minutes into the game, Spain's Pau Nieto nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ásgautur Reimarsson made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Ásgautur Reimarsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pau Nieto in the 20th minute of play. Aznaro Marquez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Þyrnir Árnason in the 23rd minute of play. When Iceland's Þyrnir Árnason, in the 24th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Iceland. In the 41st minute Svali Bollason shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aznaro Marquez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A throw-in in the 42nd minute of the game was made by Policarpio Tobias with Pau Nieto as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pau Nieto in the 45th minute of play forced Iceland's goalkeeper Ásgautur Reimarsson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Jan Koller, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 47 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Kristinn Ingimundarson was the one to do the kick off. Iceland's Kristinn Ingimundarson got a good chance for a goal in the 57th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Pau Nieto's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ásgautur Reimarsson was relentless in the 60th minute of the game. In the 63rd minute Kristinn Ingimundarson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aznaro Marquez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Spain's Aznaro Marquez got control of the ball when Kristinn Ingimundarson tried to sneak it across the goal line. Spain's Eskuin Zapatero was substituted for Dolfos Cartagena. Spain's Fredo Silvestre was substituted for Lorenzo Torres. If Gylfi Halldórsson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Aznaro Marquez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kristinn Ingimundarson in the 81st minute of play. After 82 minutes Spain's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Kópur Guðlaugsson who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Kópur Guðlaugsson almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Spain's Aznaro Marquez did a great save. After a rather tough play, Iceland's Dofri Hannesson got a free kick in the 85th minute. Iceland's Ásgautur Reimarsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Froilan Reyes in the 86th minute of play. Froilan Reyes scored 2-1 in the 90th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ásgautur Reimarsson, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Spain's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
