After 19 played minutes Portugal got a freekick which was hit by Fábio Moura. Manuel Viana showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Barış Altunışık in the 20th minute of the match. With an all-out effort, Portugal's Uğurcan Çakır threw himself towards the right post 23 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Gervasio Vaca, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Manuel Viana showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zeynel Zeyni, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gervasio Vaca in the 27th minute of play forced Turkey's goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Barış Altunışık made a kick off. In the 53rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Portugal's goalkeeper Manuel Viana, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The Turkey fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Uğurcan Çakır should have stopped the shot. Turkey's Alemdar Eralkan was substituted for Zeynel Zeyni. Pedro Ferreira kicked well hit freekick during the 72nd minute of the match. The supporters of Turkey booed when Portugal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pedro Ferreira didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 76 played minutes Turkey got a freekick which was hit by Michael Ballack. With a little luck, Portugal's Manuel Viana got control of the ball when Kayhan Kutcan tried to sneak it across the goal line. Kayhan Kutcan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. Manuel Viana tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
