After 3 played minutes U21 Sweden got a freekick which was hit by Nils-Erik Strömqvist. 7 minutes into the match, Jos Che dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Donato Bucci, 1-0. Angelo Benvenuto made in the 13th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by U21 Sweden's Henrik Persson. In the 19th minute Jos Che shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Donato Bucci saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jos Che sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 27 minutes into the match, U21 Italy's goal looked a bit too open when Jos Che came free, but Donato Bucci reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. U21 Italy made a substitution. In the 46th minute Jos Che shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Donato Bucci saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

Qämbäräliyev Fahlgren recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 56th minute, Aldo Melchiorre hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. U21 Sweden's Albin Blomqvist was substituted for Jos Che. U21 Italy's Donato Bucci tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Donato Bucci made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Albin Blomqvist in the 62nd minute of play. In the 63rd minute Albin Blomqvist shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Donato Bucci saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Donato Bucci showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Albin Blomqvist, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. 68 minutes into the match, U21 Italy's goal looked a bit too open when Albin Blomqvist came free, but Donato Bucci reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Donato Bucci made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Albin Blomqvist in the 70th minute of play. Donato Bucci came out of the goal in the 74th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Sweden's Albin Blomqvist. But to his dismay, Albin Blomqvist quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-1. U21 Sweden's Björn Kullgren was substituted for Tommy Bäckström. U21 Italy's Fulvio Talamo was substituted for Ciro Gava. Donato Bucci showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Albin Blomqvist in the 80th minute of the match. After 81 minutes, Angelo Benvenuto mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U21 Italy and the U21 Sweden players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 82 played minutes U21 Italy got a freekick which was hit by Angelo Benvenuto. Torsten Isaksson blasted a shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Donato Bucci having to make a save. In the 84th minute Albin Blomqvist shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Donato Bucci saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Concetto Azzolina hit a great freekick 85 minutes into the match. The corner went over the outstretched arms of U21 Italy's goalie and right to Torsten Isaksson. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. U21 Italy's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal.
