In the 13th minute Koos de Vries shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Niko Kemppainen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Taneli Blomquist kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. Sergei Bubka's late challenge caught a U21 Finland's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sergei Bubka helped the player get up and apologised. U21 Finland made a substitution. Esa Kivi replaced Elias Kaipainen. In the 23rd match minute, U21 Netherlands was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sergei Bubka to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Roni Valkealahti in the 24th minute of play forced U21 Netherlands's goalkeeper Casper Kooij to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Esa Kivi could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 28th minute of the match, but Casper Kooij made a huge save. Niko Kemppainen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Koos de Vries, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. Casper Kooij took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Roni Valkealahti, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 34thth minute of the game Roni Valkealahti who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Netherlands's Casper Kooij was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With his leg Casper Kooij managed to avoid a goal in the 36thth minute, when U21 Finland's Roni Valkealahti fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. U21 Finland's Roni Valkealahti was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 36th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. Roni Valkealahtis short, quick shot in the 46thth minute got Casper Kooij to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in.

U21 Netherlands made a substitution. Klaas Vaakanainen replaced Rocky Balboa. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Roni Valkealahti to make the kick off. With a little luck, U21 Finland's Niko Kemppainen got control of the ball when Alex van Asseldonk tried to sneak it across the goal line. Konstantin Reponen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Casper Kooij tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 64th minute, Alpo Laiho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, U21 Finland's Alpo Laiho got a free kick in the 65th minute. In the 67th minute Koos de Vries shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Niko Kemppainen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When U21 Finland's Roni Valkealahti, in the 70th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for U21 Finland. In the 73rd minute of the match Severi Hautaniemi shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Casper Kooij showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Netherlands's zone, Alpo Laiho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Casper Kooij came out of the goal and Alpo Laiho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Heiko Rieks came free with the goalkeeper in the 88th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Niko Kemppainen could save by the left post. In the 88th minute of the match, Heiko Rieks got a very nice opportunity to score, but Niko Kemppainen was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. A collision led to U21 Netherlands getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Matthijs Mans hit a great ball. Koos de Vries took the ball and in the 93 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Niko Kemppainen. Niko Kemppainen dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3.
