An unexpectedly hard shot by Evan Bardon in the 10th minute of play forced Turkey's goalkeeper Şerif Şahbey to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The corner led to Turkey's Yavuzalp Hiçsönmez getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. In the 21st minute Evan Bardon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Şerif Şahbey saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by İstemihan Okgüç in the 24th minute of play forced Malta's goalkeeper Tonio Buttigieg to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 26 minutes into the match, Malta's goalkeeper Tonio Buttigieg had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by İstemihan Okgüç. After 28 played minutes Malta got a freekick which was hit by Ugo Filletti. In the 32nd minute Evan Bardon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Şerif Şahbey saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 41stth minute of the game İstemihan Okgüç who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Malta's Tonio Buttigieg was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 45 minutes, İstemihan Okgüç made it 3-1 with a short kick to the right side. Malta's Tonio Buttigieg tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when İstemihan Okgüç stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The audience was convinced that İstemihan Okgüç's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Tonio Buttigieg was relentless in the 68th minute of the game. Tonio Buttigieg made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Talip Ağaoğlu in the 86th minute of play. Tonio Buttigieg stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Talip Ağaoğlu's shot from short distance in the 88th minute. After 88 minutes, Talip Ağaoğlu made it 7-2 with a short kick to the right side. Malta's Tonio Buttigieg tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. When the match clock showed 92 minutes, the score became 8-2 when Talip Ağaoğlu sped through Malta's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Tonio Buttigieg. In the 96th minute, Malta's Daniele Gaffarena dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 8-3. Malta's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
