The referee ignored U21 Australia's protests and gave Keefer Carragher a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, U21 Australia's Keefer Carragher got a free kick in the 2nd minute. 3 minutes into the match, U21 South Africa's goal looked a bit too open when Keefer Carragher came free, but Tyrell Mumede reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. U21 Australia's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Malcolm Hess in the 5th minute. Keefer Carragher took the ball and in the 9 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Tyrell Mumede. Tyrell Mumede dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Tyrell Mumede took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Keefer Carragher, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 14th minute James Thebile shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Niles Mealmaker saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. U21 South Africa's Dumisane Koen got a good chance for a goal in the 16th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Tyrell Mumede showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Keefer Carragher in the 18th minute of the match. Tyrell Mumede showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Keefer Carragher, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. Tyrell Mumede stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Bennett Cubitt's shot from short distance in the 22nd minute. In the 29th minute, Bennett Cubitt ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Tyrell Mumede was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. In the 32nd minute Keefer Carragher shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tyrell Mumede saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Mpenza Madiba during the 37th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 37th match minute, U21 South Africa was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mpenza Madiba to maneuver through the defense. In the 38th minute Keefer Carragher shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tyrell Mumede saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 39 minutes had been played when some careless play by U21 South Africa's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Malcolm Hess was slow to take the kick. During this time U21 Australia's players had a chance to rest. After 40 played minutes U21 Australia got a freekick which was hit by Benny Fitton. Nicholas Mbule could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 47th minute of the match, but Niles Mealmaker made a huge save. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

In the 51st minute James Thebile shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Niles Mealmaker saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. During the 61st minute of the match Mpenza Madiba completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Mpenza Madiba a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. In the 62nd minute, Mpenza Madiba hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Tyrell Mumede made an important save on a dangerous shot by Birrell Mcjunkin in the 63rd minute. U21 South Africa's Tyrell Mumede played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Keefer Carragher in the 66th minute of play. In the 67th minute, Barnard Tebbit hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 68 played minutes, U21 South Africa's Dumisane Koen shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Niles Mealmaker came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in U21 South Africa reached it. Niles Mealmaker showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nicholas Mbule in the 70th minute of the match. Niles Mealmaker took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bomikaze Webb, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Keefer Carragher in the 74th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Tyrell Mumede prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 76th minute, Nicholas Mbule ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Niles Mealmaker was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. U21 Australia's Karl Dillon was substituted for Ralph Trims. U21 Australia made a substitution. Barney Munster replaced Birrell Mcjunkin. When Nicholas Mbule came up free with the goalie in the 93rd minute, the U21 South Africa fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nicholas Mbule couldn't finish the play. When the match had gone on for 95 minutes, Karl Dillon took a quick shot and it went in 1-3 without a chance for Tyrell Mumede to make any attempt to save it. When the match was over U21 Australia could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than U21 South Africa throughout the match.
