A collision led to U21 Brazil getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Nilson Andrade hit a great ball. Francesco Totti had several of the U21 Brazil's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 32 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 2-0 score and a disappointed Júlio da Cunha as he didn't even see the shot coming. In the 38th minute of the match U21 Brazil got a corner. U21 Sweden's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Romário Coutinho ran over to the corner to take the kick. A well-hit corner resulted in Kaká Moreira heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Anders Walmarsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nilson Andrade, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

U21 Sweden's Zlatko Ibrahimović was substituted for Vladyslav Ananenkov. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Nilson Andrade was the one to do the kick off. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Matías Neiva in the 80th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Anders Walmarsson saved U21 Sweden from getting behind. 82 minutes into the game, Túlio Teixeira cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-2. Anders Walmarsson was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. U21 Sweden's Michael Hedlund was substituted for Francesco Totti. Júlio da Cunha showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rasmus Almstedt, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. After 94 played minutes U21 Brazil got a freekick which was hit by Fred Nogueira. Ur Hård, 95 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
