Șerban Păunescu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bertold Ács, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 36 minutes had been played when some careless play by Romania's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Bertold Ács was slow to take the kick. During this time Hungary's players had a chance to rest. 39 minutes into the match, Hungary's goal looked a bit too open when Controller Atom came free, but Szabolcs Zolnai reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 40th minute, András Sánta hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Hungary's Bertold Ács got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Hungary made a substitution. Miklós Kocsis replaced Dávid Barczi.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Manole Pumnu stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Romania's defense didn't have a chance, in the 56th minute, when Márton Zsinka scored to the left of an out of position Șerban Păunescu, making the score, 0-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Manole Pumnu in the 58th minute of play forced Hungary's goalkeeper Szabolcs Zolnai to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Szabolcs Zolnai showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sandu Romaşcanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. Márton Zsinka blasted a shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Șerban Păunescu having to make a save. Romania made a substitution. The corner ended in Bertold Ács almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Romania's Șerban Păunescu did a great save.
