The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Gunvald Larsson took the kick off in the first half of the match. Through an outstanding action, after 3 minutes, Olov Möller successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Américo Fontes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jens-Åke Sjöberg in the 7th minute of the match. 7 minutes into the match, Portugal's goal looked a bit too open when Jens-Åke Sjöberg came free, but Américo Fontes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Américo Fontes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jens-Åke Sjöberg, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 12 minutes into the match, Afonso Magalhães had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Olov Möller. Sweden's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Afonso Magalhães was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Afonso Magalhães in the 14th minute of play forced Sweden's goalkeeper Olov Möller to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 25th minute, Eusébio Panter ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Olov Möller was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Afonso Magalhães in the 29th minute of play forced Sweden's goalkeeper Olov Möller to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Olov Möller came out of the goal in the 38th minute to try and stop a shot by Portugal's Afonso Magalhães. But to his dismay, Afonso Magalhães quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. Afonso Magalhães could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Olov Möller made a huge save. 46 minutes into the match, Sweden's goal looked a bit too open when Afonso Magalhães came free, but Olov Möller reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.

Sweden's Klas Unesson was substituted for Gunvald Larsson. Eusébio Panter fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Olov Möller having to interfere. Olov Möller took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Afonso Magalhães, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Olov Möller showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Abel Fernandes in the 64th minute of the match. Américo Fontes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jens-Åke Sjöberg, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 72 minutes into the match, Portugal's goalkeeper Américo Fontes had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jens-Åke Sjöberg. 77 minutes into the match, Sweden's goal looked a bit too open when Afonso Magalhães came free, but Olov Möller reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Américo Fontes came out of the goal in the 80th minute to try and stop a shot by Sweden's Jens-Åke Sjöberg. But to his dismay, Jens-Åke Sjöberg quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-1. Portugal's Ricardo Valente was substituted for Eusébio Panter. Klas Unesson's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 84thth minute, Américo Fontes skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Jens-Åke Sjöberg could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 85th minute of the match, but Américo Fontes made a huge save. With a little luck, Portugal's Américo Fontes got control of the ball when Jens-Åke Sjöberg tried to sneak it across the goal line. Olov Möller made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ricardo Valente in the 93rd minute of play. 97 minutes into the match, Sweden's Jens-Åke Sjöberg sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Américo Fontes narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 98th minute, Nuno Ribeiro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Portugal fully deserved thier win.
