The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Gambo Alexandrovitsch in the 12th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Agustin Matamoros saved U21 Costa Rica from getting behind. Sebastián Viera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pancho Vanderlat, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. In the 18th minute Gambo Alexandrovitsch shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Agustin Matamoros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Agustin Matamoros showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gambo Alexandrovitsch in the 21st minute of the match. 24 minutes into the match, U21 Colombia's Lorenz Orgaz sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Agustin Matamoros narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 28 minutes into the match, Claudio Cordero notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of U21 Colombia's Sebastián Viera. The supporters of U21 Costa Rica booed when U21 Colombia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lapurdi Enderica didn't get a good kick on the ball. U21 Costa Rica's Pancho Vanderlat couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 51st minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for U21 Colombia. Cordeara Pedraja took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 58th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Agustin Matamoros. U21 Costa Rica's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Leo Zunzunegui hit a great freekick 61 minutes into the match. U21 Colombia made a substitution. Juan Corredor replaced Lorenz Orgaz. After a rather tough play, U21 Colombia's Leo Zunzunegui got a free kick in the 62nd minute. Agustin Matamoros took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gambo Alexandrovitsch, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Henry Osma charged in rather forcefully in the 80th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Henry Osma the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 81st match minute, U21 Colombia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Henry Osma to maneuver through the defense. U21 Colombia's Cristian Bermeo was substituted for Gambo Alexandrovitsch. In the 82nd minute, Henry Osma hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some careless play in the U21 Costa Rica defense, Cristian Bermeo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Agustin Matamoros. The U21 Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Agustin Matamoros should have stopped the shot. Walter Burgos kicked well hit freekick during the 88th minute of the match. U21 Costa Rica's Agustin Matamoros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Bermeo in the 91st minute of play. In the 95th minute, Marco Ureña hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The U21 Colombia fans cheered their team off the field, for while U21 Costa Rica had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
