Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 56 minutes into the match, Canada's goal looked a bit too open when Angel Odon came free, but Gene Dolan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gene Dolan stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Angel Odon's shot from short distance in the 56th minute. Gene Dolan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vladimiro Corderall in the 59th minute of play. 62 minutes had been played when some careless play by Canada's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Eriberto Jacindo was slow to take the kick. During this time Mexico's players had a chance to rest. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Canada's goalie and right to Vladimiro Corderall. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Canada's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Canada's Angelo Small got a good chance for a goal in the 68th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Canada's Aron Dow quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lucas Alberto in the 88th minute of play forced Canada's goalkeeper Gene Dolan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Canada were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Mexico's much stronger midfield.
