When Kain McJohn fell near the penalty area in the 4th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Ireland's protests and gave Kain McJohn a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of U21 Germany booed when U21 Ireland was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 4 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kain McJohn didn't get a good kick on the ball. Christoph Porsche charged in rather forcefully in the 5th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Christoph Porsche the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Christoph Porsche hit a great freekick 6 minutes into the match. In the 9th minute Brann Morrison shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bernward Kuschke saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 9 minutes into the game, U21 Ireland's Brann Morrison nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Bernward Kuschke made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. After a rather tough play, U21 Ireland's Bart Mis got a free kick in the 12th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Raoul Gerhardt in the 18th minute of play forced U21 Ireland's goalkeeper Baiste O'Neill to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The corner led U21 Germany's Bülent Maldini to fire away a dangerous shot which Baiste O'Neill despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Raoul Gerhardt could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 24th minute of the match, but Baiste O'Neill made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Burt Mölber in the 25th minute of play forced U21 Ireland's goalkeeper Baiste O'Neill to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bernward Kuschke showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Artt Crowe, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. U21 Ireland's Baiste O'Neill played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Raoul Gerhardt in the 28th minute of play. U21 Germany were awarded a corner in the 29th minute after U21 Ireland's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Bülent Maldini took the corner. 31 minutes into the game, Brann Morrison cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Bernward Kuschke was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 35th minute Brann Morrison shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bernward Kuschke saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Christoph Porsche was shown his second yellow card after 36 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. After 36 played minutes U21 Germany got a freekick which was hit by Christoph Porsche. U21 Germany's Bernward Kuschke played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Brann Morrison in the 37th minute of play.
In the 57th match minute, U21 Germany was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lucian Kröpelin to maneuver through the defense. In the 58th minute, Lucian Kröpelin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. U21 Germany's Bernward Kuschke proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 59th minute of the match, managed to save U21 Germany from getting a goal against them. Baiste O'Neill came out of the goal in the 62nd minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Germany's Burt Mölber. But to his dismay, Burt Mölber quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-4. An unexpectedly hard shot by Brazil Horgan in the 65th minute of play forced U21 Germany's goalkeeper Bernward Kuschke to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Philip McOliver kicked well hit freekick during the 66th minute of the match. After 67 minutes of play, U21 Germany's Burt Mölber made it 2-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Baiste O'Neill was left in no man's land by his defense there! After 72 played minutes U21 Ireland got a freekick which was hit by Petran Murphy. U21 Germany's Ulf Sönksen was substituted for Lucian Kröpelin. In the 73rd minute, Petran Murphy hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Raoul Gerhardt came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the U21 Germany fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Raoul Gerhardt couldn't finish the play. The supporters of U21 Germany booed when U21 Ireland was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Teddy Costello didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 91st minute Bin Ryan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bernward Kuschke saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Bernward Kuschke made a fantastic save in the 93rd minute, when Brazil Horgan sent off a good shot on target. Baiste O'Neill took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Raoul Gerhardt, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Donavon Dalton could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 96th minute of the match, but Bernward Kuschke made a huge save. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. U21 Ireland walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
