After a rather tough play, Canada's Ertuğrul Sağlam got a free kick in the 4th minute. The audience was convinced that Angel Odon's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Manu Neuer was relentless in the 5th minute of the game. 11 minutes into the match, Canada's goal looked a bit too open when Leon Raitin came free, but Manu Neuer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ariel Beliran showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dwight Coats, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. Ariel Beliran made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Terence Butcher in the 18th minute of play. After 19 minutes of play, Canada's Dwight Coats made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Ariel Beliran was left in no man's land by his defense there! Manu Neuer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Angel Odon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 27 minutes into the match, Canada's goal looked a bit too open when Leon Raitin came free, but Manu Neuer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ariel Beliran made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Terence Butcher in the 29th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Mexico's Saul Pietro slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Manu Neuer. That made the score 1-1 after 35 minutes of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Dwight Coats stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Terence Butcher in the 51st minute of play forced Mexico's goalkeeper Ariel Beliran to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 52 minutes had been played when some careless play by Mexico's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Darrin Dietz was slow to take the kick. During this time Canada's players had a chance to rest. Fermin Dubardo tried in the 53rd minute to hit away a contribution but miss-kicked the ball which ended up in his own goal and left an unhappy Ariel Beliran a with quite unnecessary self made goal. Result 1-2. Manu Neuer took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Angel Odon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Manu Neuer showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zacarias Peruanton in the 86th minute of the match. Canada's Manu Neuer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Saul Pietro in the 89th minute of play. When the match had gone on for 90 minutes, Ed Estrada took a quick shot and it went in 1-3 without a chance for Ariel Beliran to make any attempt to save it. The Canada supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Canada would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
