But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Victor Răchiteanu couldn't finish the play. Nicodim Jivulescu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Teofil Bartelak in the 10th minute of the match. In the 12th minute, Cristinel Nițu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 16th minute, Ion Oblemenco ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Zbyszek Szotek was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. The audience was convinced that Ion Oblemenco's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Zbyszek Szotek was relentless in the 19th minute of the game. When the match had gone on for 21 minutes, Ionică Melinescu put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Zbyszek Szotek. U21 Poland's Zbyszek Szotek played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ionică Melinescu in the 24th minute of play. In the 30th match minute, U21 Poland was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rafal Wojtkiewicz to maneuver through the defense. If Gwidon Wykowski had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A nice corner shot did that Sebastian Franzik got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Nicodim Jivulescu quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. In the 43rd minute Ionică Melinescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zbyszek Szotek saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The U21 Poland players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. U21 Romania were winning 0-3.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ion Oblemenco was the one to do the kick off. The nice shot from Ionică Melinescu in the 51stth minute just in front of the goal should have ended in point on the board, but Zbyszek Szotek had a great feel for the game and superbly saved the ball from getting in by the left post. U21 Romania's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Victor Răchiteanu in the 52nd minute. The corner led to U21 Romania's Niculae Izbașa getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. In the 56th minute Controller Atom shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zbyszek Szotek saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, U21 Romania's Basarab Birișu got a free kick in the 58th minute. Nicodim Jivulescu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ryszard Piatek in the 59th minute of play. After some careless play in the U21 Romania defense, Ryszard Piatek kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nicodim Jivulescu. The U21 Romania fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nicodim Jivulescu should have stopped the shot. When Teofil Bartelak fell near the penalty area in the 62nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Poland's protests and gave Teofil Bartelak a yellow card for diving instead. 68 minutes into the game, U21 Romania's Ion Oblemenco nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Zbyszek Szotek made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-4. After a rather tough play, U21 Romania's Basarab Birișu got a free kick in the 72nd minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ion Oblemenco in the 82nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Zbyszek Szotek prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ion Oblemenco in the 84thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Zbyszek Szotek, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. When Ionică Melinescu came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the U21 Romania fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ionică Melinescu couldn't finish the play. In the 88th match minute, U21 Romania was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Basarab Birișu to maneuver through the defense. Ion Oblemenco received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Zbyszek Szotek came out and tried to block the shot, but Ion Oblemenco slotted it home off the left post making it 2-6 in the 92nd minute. The U21 Romania fans' excitement grew in the 95th match minute when U21 Romania's Ion Oblemenco looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-7 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. U21 Romania had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
