Croatia's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The supporters of Romania booed when Croatia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ferenc Puskás didn't get a good kick on the ball. 20 minutes into the match, Croatia's goal looked a bit too open when Florin Huțupan came free, but Izidor Radmanović reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 20th minute, Florin Huțupan left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Romania fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. If Manole Bernea had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Izidor Radmanović showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Manole Bernea, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 34th minute, Florin Huțupan managed to get in a good position for a shot. Romania's supporters rose to their feet, but Florin Huțupan was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Izidor Radmanović breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 36th minute Martin Caranică shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Izidor Radmanović saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 37 played minutes Romania got a freekick which was hit by Emanuel Leluțiu. Croatia's Jure Salzer was substituted for Višeslav Hrvatinić. A collision led to Romania getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Emanuel Leluțiu hit a great ball. Izidor Radmanović took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Florin Huțupan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 42 minutes into the match, Romania's Martin Caranică sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Izidor Radmanović narrowly saved just below the crossbar.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jure Salzer made a kick off. In the 50th minute, Ferenc Puskás hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Izidor Radmanović made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Martin Caranică in the 54th minute of play. Croatia's Izidor Radmanović played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Florin Huțupan in the 58th minute of play. Florin Huțupan could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 59th minute of the match, but Izidor Radmanović made a huge save. Romania made a substitution. Codrin Vlădoiu replaced Martin Caranică. In the 61st match minute, Croatia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hrvoje Matoš to maneuver through the defense. Romania's Codrin Vlădoiu got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Romania's Avram Demian played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hrvoje Matoš in the 71st minute of play. Romania made a substitution. Nechifor Hurmuzescu replaced Laurențiu Bănățeanu. In the 75th minute Romania were awarded a corner. Emanuel Leluțiu went to the cornerflag to take it. A well-hit corner resulted in Marin Mihăescu heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Izidor Radmanović came out of the goal in the 79th minute to try and stop a shot by Romania's Nechifor Jugănaru. But to his dismay, Nechifor Jugănaru quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nechifor Jugănaru in the 88th minute of play forced Croatia's goalkeeper Izidor Radmanović to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match was over Romania could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Croatia throughout the match.
