After some careless play in the Azerbaijan defense, Alvydas Daukantas kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Färid Balacayev. The Azerbaijan fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Färid Balacayev should have stopped the shot. In the 14th minute Saulius Voveris shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Färid Balacayev saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vilmantas Zuoza showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mehman Näbiyev, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mehman Näbiyev in the 15th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Vilmantas Zuoza prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Vilmantas Zuoza showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mahmud Ağazäliyev, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. In the 19th minute Saulius Voveris shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Färid Balacayev saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vilmantas Zuoza made an important save on a dangerous shot by Mahmud Ağazäliyev in the 20th minute. Saulius Voveris recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 25th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Alvydas Daukantas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Färid Balacayev having to interfere. Vilmantas Zuoza made a fantastic save in the 30th minute, when Mahmud Ağazäliyev sent off a good shot on target. Lithuania's attentive Liudvikas Bajoriūnas managed to snatch the ball when Näsräddin Mahmudov made a throw-in in the 32nd minute of the game. In the 33rd minute Alvydas Daukantas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Färid Balacayev saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Färid Balacayev stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Alvydas Daukantas's shot from short distance in the 38th minute. A collision led to Azerbaijan getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. Näsräddin Mahmudov hit a great ball. Vilmantas Zuoza made an important save on a dangerous shot by Mahmud Ağazäliyev in the 43rd minute. Vilmantas Zuoza didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when Azerbaijan's Mehman Näbiyev shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 1-2 in the ordered_time% minute. The throw-in from Näsräddin Mahmudov in the 46th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Lithuania's Liudvikas Bajoriūnas. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Mehman Näbiyev was the one to do the kick off. When the match had gone on for 53 minutes, Mahmud Ağazäliyev put it in 2-2 from a short distance just to the right of Vilmantas Zuoza. An unexpectedly hard shot by Baloğlan Namazov in the 57th minute of play forced Lithuania's goalkeeper Vilmantas Zuoza to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alvydas Daukantas blasted a shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Färid Balacayev having to make a save. Färid Balacayev made an important save on a dangerous shot by Saulius Voveris in the 63rd minute. Vilmantas Zuoza showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Yaqub Ibadov in the 72nd minute of the match. Alvydas Daukantas might have been able to make a better finish in the 76th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Färid Balacayev. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Alvydas Daukantas ran back to his position shaking his head. Vilmantas Zuoza showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Loğman Bädälov in the 77th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice moves Saulius Voveris could shoot a difficult shot in the 88th minute, which Färid Balacayev however easily saved by the left post. Alvydas Daukantas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Färid Balacayev having to interfere. Alvydas Daukantas didn't miss a given chance and shot in short distance 2-3 via right post in the game's 94th minute. Lithuania's supporters showed their exhuberating excitement!
