Match Report

National Stadium
Spectators: 10300 (Terracing: 7725, Seating: 2369, VIP seats: 206)
Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Adam Kosmatka started the match with the kick off. 8 minutes had been played when some careless play by U21 Poland's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Ralf-Bertil Larsson was slow to take the kick. During this time U21 Sweden's players had a chance to rest. It was a well-played corner which Matthias Nyström managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. Staffan Nykvist showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Herbert Dranka in the 11th minute of the match. 13 minutes into the match, U21 Poland's goalkeeper Radoslaw Kojder had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Peter Ahlén. 15 minutes into the match, Herbert Dranka had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Staffan Nykvist. U21 Sweden's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Herbert Dranka was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Adam Kosmatka fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Staffan Nykvist having to interfere. Radoslaw Kojder showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Matthias Nyström in the 21st minute of the match. Staffan Nykvist made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ryszard Ludwa in the 22nd minute of play. U21 Sweden's Staffan Nykvist played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adam Kosmatka in the 24th minute of play. In the 25thth minute of the game Herbert Dranka who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but U21 Sweden's Staffan Nykvist was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 28 minutes into the match, U21 Poland's Herbert Dranka sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Staffan Nykvist narrowly saved just below the crossbar. U21 Sweden were awarded a corner in the 30th minute after U21 Poland's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Ralf-Bertil Larsson took the corner. Florian Simonsson hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. In the 39th minute, Johnny Strömbom got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Johnny Strömbom received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 44th minute. Radoslaw Kojder tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 46 minutes, Peter Ahlén mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U21 Sweden and the U21 Poland players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, U21 Sweden's Peter Ahlén got a free kick in the 46th minute. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Sten Lustig made a kick off. If Ryszard Ludwa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Roland Galaska's late challenge caught a U21 Sweden's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Roland Galaska helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, U21 Poland's Roland Galaska got a free kick in the 56th minute. Radoslaw Kojder made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sten Lustig in the 57th minute of play. 58 minutes into the match, Matthias Nyström notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of U21 Poland's Radoslaw Kojder. Radoslaw Kojder was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The audience thought a goal was coming when Adam Kosmatka got free with Staffan Nykvist in the 62nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Radoslaw Kojder stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Matthias Nyström's shot from short distance in the 67th minute. U21 Sweden were awarded a corner in the 69th minute after U21 Poland's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Ralf-Bertil Larsson took the corner. After taking down the ball on U21 Sweden's corner Sten Lustig fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Radoslaw Kojder quite easily take care of the ball. When the match clock showed 69 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Sten Lustig sped through U21 Poland's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Radoslaw Kojder. U21 Sweden's defense didn't have a chance, in the 72nd minute, when Adam Kosmatka scored to the left of an out of position Staffan Nykvist, making the score, 2-2. U21 Poland made a substitution. Radomil Brudzisz replaced Adam Kosmatka. U21 Poland's Klement Klimkiewicz was substituted for Slawomir Naumowicz. If Radomil Brudzisz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Staffan Nykvist made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ryszard Ludwa in the 84th minute of play. When Damian Zbikowski fell near the penalty area in the 87th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored U21 Poland's protests and gave Damian Zbikowski a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to U21 Poland getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Damian Zbikowski hit a great ball. With a little luck, U21 Sweden's Staffan Nykvist got control of the ball when Milosz Bilicki tried to sneak it across the goal line. Staffan Nykvist showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Radomil Brudzisz in the 93rd minute of the match. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
