U21 South Africa's Rafael Thebe played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Haikal Dewa in the 2nd minute of play. 5 minutes into the match, U21 Malaysia's goalkeeper Gendo Hans had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Bradley Wanani. In the 7th minute Thanyani Komani shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gendo Hans saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Zulfikar Priyatno's late challenge caught a U21 South Africa's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Zulfikar Priyatno helped the player get up and apologised. After 8 played minutes U21 Malaysia got a freekick which was hit by Zulfikar Priyatno. Through an outstanding action, after 10 minutes, Gendo Hans successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. In the 12th minute Dede Reza shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rafael Thebe saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. U21 Malaysia's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Dede Reza in the 13th minute. Rafael Thebe showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Haikal Dewa in the 15th minute of the match. 15 minutes into the match, Haikal Dewa notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of U21 South Africa's Rafael Thebe. Rafael Thebe was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Rafael Thebe made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Haikal Dewa in the 22nd minute of play. U21 Malaysia's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Dede Reza in the 23rd minute. U21 Malaysia's Dede Reza was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Rafael Thebe in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Rafael Thebe showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Haikal Dewa, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. The supporters of U21 South Africa booed when U21 Malaysia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Haikal Dewa didn't get a good kick on the ball. U21 Malaysia's Gendo Hans played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bradley Wanani in the 29th minute of play. Allan King kicked well hit freekick during the 32nd minute of the match. Rafael Thebe showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ari Priyatno in the 33rd minute of the match. Bradley Wanani received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Gendo Hans tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 37th minute, Haikal Dewa managed to get in a good position for a shot. U21 Malaysia's supporters rose to their feet, but Haikal Dewa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Rafael Thebe breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ari Priyatno recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 47 minutes into the match, U21 South Africa's goal looked a bit too open when Ari Priyatno came free, but Rafael Thebe reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

U21 South Africa's Melusi Shoba was substituted for Justice Mandela. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ari Priyatno was the one to do the kick off. A collision led to U21 South Africa getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Sipho Patel hit a great ball. U21 Malaysia's Ari Priyatno managed to work through U21 South Africa's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Ari Priyatno dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. 60 minutes into the match, U21 South Africa's goalkeeper Rafael Thebe had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Haikal Dewa. After 68 minutes, Sipho Patel mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U21 South Africa and the U21 Malaysia players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of U21 Malaysia booed when U21 South Africa was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sipho Patel didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, U21 Malaysia's Zulfikar Priyatno got a free kick in the 70th minute. Bradley Wanani struck a weak shot in the 73rd minute. Gendo Hans didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 South Africa. A collision led to U21 Malaysia getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Uum Ramadhonna hit a great ball. After 79 played minutes U21 Malaysia got a freekick which was hit by Zulfikar Priyatno. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lindo Sewele in the 84th minute of play forced U21 Malaysia's goalkeeper Gendo Hans to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 86th match minute, U21 Malaysia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Porman Karo-karo to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, U21 South Africa's Rafael Thebe got control of the ball when Kia Arbi tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 91 played minutes U21 South Africa got a freekick which was hit by Johannes Mangope. Bradley Etafia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gendo Hans having to interfere. U21 South Africa's Rafael Thebe played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dede Reza in the 95th minute of play. U21 Malaysia were awarded a corner in the 96th minute after U21 South Africa's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Dede Reza took the corner. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. U21 Malaysia walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
