A wasted opportunity for Italy. 15 minutes into the game, Severiano Beliran cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Adriano Di Campli was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Mexico's Leonardo Lleir played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Amos Serafini in the 25th minute of play. In the 28thth minute of the game Severiano Beliran who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Italy's Adriano Di Campli was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Leonardo Lleir showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Amos Serafini, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. 34 minutes had been played when some careless play by Mexico's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Fabio Schiavoni was slow to take the kick. During this time Italy's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Italy's Fabio Schiavoni to fire away a dangerous shot which Leonardo Lleir despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. 35 minutes into the match, Italy's goal looked a bit too open when Saul Pietro came free, but Adriano Di Campli reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Severiano Beliran had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

Leonardo Lleir made an important save on a dangerous shot by Damiano Bontempi in the 52nd minute. Saul Pietro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Adriano Di Campli took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Saul Pietro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Diego Florinio in the 86th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Adriano Di Campli prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With a little luck, Mexico's Leonardo Lleir got control of the ball when Damiano Bontempi tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Diego Florinio came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Mexico fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Diego Florinio couldn't finish the play. Damiano Bontempi could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 94th minute of the match, but Leonardo Lleir made a huge save. The audience thought a goal was coming when Damiano Bontempi got free with Leonardo Lleir in the 94th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Mexico's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
