Cirilo Afonso scored 2-0 in the 22nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Danny Gray, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When Teddy Sheringham came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the U21 Australia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Teddy Sheringham couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Australia's zone, Cirilo Afonso stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Danny Gray came out of the goal and Cirilo Afonso tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Best Štriker struck a weak shot in the 35th minute. Keylor Navas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Australia. 40 minutes into the match, U21 Australia's goalkeeper Danny Gray had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Adriana Rius. Adriana Rius scored 3-0 in the 44th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Danny Gray, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. If Adriana Rius had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

Waddah Yabo kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. After 79 minutes, Waddah Yabo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the U21 Australia and the U21 Argentina players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, U21 Australia's Waddah Yabo got a free kick in the 79th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 80th minute, Hector Sugar managed to get in a good position for a shot. Danny Gray breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Cirilo Afonso took the ball and in the 81 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Danny Gray. Danny Gray dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 7-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hector Sugar in the 84th minute of play forced U21 Australia's goalkeeper Danny Gray to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
