Spectators: 10305 (Terracing: 7729, Seating: 2370, VIP seats: 206) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Petru Joldea started the match with the kick off. In the 3rd minute, U21 Denmark's Nigel Harreby ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Iurie Pescaru. Iurie Pescaru yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. Kay Gamsen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Petru Joldea in the 6th minute of play. Ricky Jennik kicked well hit freekick during the 8th minute of the match. In the 9th minute, Horea Bilașco left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The U21 Romania fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Szilveszter Szuper in the 14th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Iurie Pescaru saved U21 Romania from getting behind. In the 16th minute Horea Bilașco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kay Gamsen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 17 minutes, Nigel Harreby managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. U21 Denmark's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nigel Harreby was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Iurie Pescaru acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 22nd minute, took the ball on the long shot from Szilveszter Szuper. Nigel Harreby scored 2-1 in the 24th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Iurie Pescaru, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. U21 Denmark's Kay Gamsen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dragoş Minda in the 27th minute of play. Nigel Harreby struck a weak shot in the 28th minute. Iurie Pescaru didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for U21 Denmark. 30 minutes into the match, U21 Denmark's goal looked a bit too open when Horea Bilașco came free, but Kay Gamsen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Petru Joldea sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 45 minutes into the game, Toader Tănasă threw the ball into play from the sideline. U21 Denmark's Stephen Appiah quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Nigel Harreby was the one to do the kick off. Laurențiu Bănățeanu hit a great freekick 51 minutes into the match. Iurie Pescaru showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Szilveszter Szuper in the 52nd minute of the match. After 55 minutes U21 Denmark's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Toader Tănasă who took care of the corner kick. U21 Romania's Toader Tănasă was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Kay Gamsen in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After 58 played minutes U21 Romania got a freekick which was hit by Petru Joldea. U21 Romania made a substitution. Petrică Albu replaced Horea Bilașco. In the 59th match minute, U21 Romania was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Petru Joldea to maneuver through the defense. In the 63rd minute, Petrică Albu reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Kay Gamsen. The goal made the score 2-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nigel Harreby in the 67th minute of play forced U21 Romania's goalkeeper Iurie Pescaru to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kay Gamsen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Petru Joldea, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. U21 Denmark's Gregor Foldgast was substituted for Stephen Appiah. A throw-in in the 72nd minute of the game was made by Toader Tănasă with Petrică Albu as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. The audience thought a goal was coming when Sebastian Vidican got free with Kay Gamsen in the 73rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Kay Gamsen came out of the goal in the 75th minute to try and stop a shot by U21 Romania's Petrică Albu. But to his dismay, Petrică Albu quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-3. Hemming Stokkebye lost his temper 80 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. After 80 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for U21 Denmark! Kay Gamsen had in the 82ndth minute some difficulties stopping Petru Joldea's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 2-4 came in the 83rd minute when Petru Joldea all by himself managed to get straight through the defense and place the ball into the net to the right of Kay Gamsen. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Freddi Søvold during the 91st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, U21 Denmark's Freddi Søvold got a free kick in the 91st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marco Ravntoft in the 93rd minute of play forced U21 Romania's goalkeeper Iurie Pescaru to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Eckhardt Grahn in the 95th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Iurie Pescaru prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The U21 Denmark fans' excitement grew in the 95th match minute when U21 Denmark's Eckhardt Grahn looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-4 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. David Mugur fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kay Gamsen having to interfere. The U21 Denmark supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching U21 Romania's performance. The match ended with a win for U21 Romania.
