Ronald Sandoval's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Diogo Setúbal read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 14th minute of play. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

In the 92nd minute Ronald Sandoval shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Diogo Setúbal saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alex Miguel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jorge Mota in the 95th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Yasir Chavez saved Honduras from getting behind. Portugal were awarded a corner in the 96th minute after Honduras's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Simão Mota took the corner. The Portugal players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
